There’s Gold in them hills…

When I lived in Boulder, CO I remember a story about a hippie-college kid thinking that it was amusing to put ‘Gold Digging’ as a past occupation.  What is so funny about it (to me anyway) is the way in which the very serious Gold expeditions have taken on a ‘transparent,’ and forgotten part of the United States history.

Quick history (I am an armchair American History buff)… Dependent upon how long one considers a ‘generation,’ there have been far fewer perceived generations since James K. Polk announced,

”The accounts of abundance of gold are of such an extraordinary character as would scarcely command belief were they not corroborated by the authentic reports of officers in the public service.”

The larger ‘more historical’ point is that the Gold Rush brought about a preponderance of adventure and spirit to this country.  It is what sparked the ‘American West,’ some might argue it was the fuel to the Industrial Revolution, and others might embrace (and not argue)… that this country was all at once beholden to it’s now almost forgotten Manifest Destiny (if you would like to read about the Manifest Destiny follow the link, because that is an entire essay).

The larger point, for me as a marketing consultant in the Luxury Real estate business is that there are some downright amazing properties out in the Great West.  One of them happens to be represented by an agent from Century 21 Agate by the name of Karl Nettgen.  He is selling an astounding place out there for an absolute bargain of 14.5 million.  Sounds like a lot doesn’t it? Take a look again and see what it gets you…

So… The Rockies still have their purple mounted majesty, and the Smokies still glisten, but out ‘there in them hills of Oregon’ you can still have you some of our pioneer’s unadulterated gold.
